Marés opens every morning for breakfast at Comte Borrell, 208, on the corner of Mallorca. Sit in the dining room or, when the weather is good, out in the inner courtyard, and choose between something quick with coffee and toast or a full breakfast with eggs and bacon.
Every morning
The simplest option is the classic one: coffee, orange juice and some bread or pastries. There's toast, croissants and doughnuts, and if you don't fancy orange, the juice can also be apple or pineapple. It works for a quick breakfast before heading into work, or for sitting down for a while with your first coffee of the day before the morning gets going.
Full breakfast
If it's going to be a long day, order the full breakfast: scrambled eggs and bacon, toast, fruit, coffee and orange juice, all at the same table. It's handy if you're going with someone to Hospital Clínic first thing, coming off a night shift, or staying nearby and want breakfast without having to look any further.
Something lighter
If you'd rather keep it light, there's fruit such as grapefruit and grapes, with seeds and toast. When the weather allows, this breakfast is lovely in the inner courtyard, among trees, white gravel and rush-seated chairs. It's the same courtyard that works as the terrace at lunch and dinner, so if you like it, you can ask for a table outside when you book for lunch or dinner too.
