Dinner for two
Marés is the restaurant at Hotel Zenit Borrell, at Comte Borrell, 208, and you're welcome to dine here even if you're not staying. For an evening for two, the menu works well for something to share, a main each and a glass of cava.
The table
The dining room has a wooden ceiling, paper lampshades and large windows onto the inner courtyard, where the trees and gravel are lit up as night falls. Every table for two has its own table lamp. If you'd like to eat outside, ask when you book and we'll tell you whether there's a table on the terrace that night. Getting here: Comte Borrell, 208, on the corner of Mallorca; come in through the hotel and ask for Marés.

An Iberian ham board with tomato bread, the Spanish cheese selection or the burrata, in the middle of the table for the two of you to pick at.
Beef sirloin with foie in a port reduction, or gratinated monkfish tail with pineapple aioli. If you fancy rice, there are paellas and black rice with seafood.
A glass of cava or house wine with dinner and, while you linger afterwards, an Aperol Spritz or a gin and tonic.
To finish
To finish there's warm chocolate coulant, an ice-cream sundae, seasonal fruit and a dessert of the day that changes: ask what it is when you sit down. For two, the easiest thing is to order one, share it and stay on over a coffee or a drink. If you're coming for an anniversary or another special date, tell us when you book and we'll bear it in mind. And if the birthday involves more people, we have celebration menus for groups.

Plenty to choose from: salmon loin in asparagus cream, gratinated monkfish tail with pineapple aioli, fish of the day, chargrilled vegetables in romesco sauce and creamy mushroom risotto.
