A restaurant with a terrace in the Eixample, set in a tree-lined courtyard

Marés is the restaurant at Hotel Zenit Borrell, at Comte Borrell, 208, on the corner of Mallorca. Its terrace isn't on the pavement: it's in the hotel's inner courtyard, and you can book even if you're not staying.

The courtyard

Trees, gravel and lights at dusk

The courtyard has trees, a gravel floor, timber decking and rush-seat chairs, and as night falls, lights come on among the plants. Because it's enclosed, you eat outdoors without the street right beside you. Outside, you order from the same menu as in the dining room: bravas for the middle of the table, a salad or a paella to share. In the evening, with the lights on, you can see the courtyard from the dining room too.

In the morning

Breakfast in the courtyard

In the morning the courtyard is used for breakfast: coffee, orange juice, toast, croissants or doughnuts, at tables on the timber decking with white gravel all around. If you're not staying at the hotel and would like breakfast here, give us a call first and we'll tell you how it works that day.

If there's no room outside

A table by the glass doors

Outdoor tables vary from day to day. Book or ring us with the date and how many of you there are, tell us you'd like the terrace and we'll confirm whether there's space. If the courtyard is full or the weather isn't on your side, the dining room has large windows onto the courtyard and tables for two by the glass doors, which open onto the garden, so you still see the trees.
